Cindy Sheehan wrote a moving diary on here on DKOS in which she "resigned" from the anti-War movement; she is fed up, it seems, with being badly treated. Her main points are as follows: she has had to face enormous personal problems as a result of her dedication to the movement and she has nothing to show for it but enormous debt. Why is that?
The American Left is moribund, dead, a sort of weekend occupation for the comfortable middle-class to express outrage at the cartoonish evil of the Bush administration which can do what it does because the Left is so weak. The reason Bush is in power and the reason his people have been able to do what they do should not be blamed on the Right—they've always wanted fascism in this country. The Left needs to offer a counterweight to the excesses of the Right and the Center (both of which share the same love for the elites dominating rather than serving the populace).
