I’ve seen a little here, a little there but it didn’t click for me until today when I happened across an older article. But first…
You’ve probably heard all about it, but the PGA Golf Tour is moving from Trump’s Doral course in Miami to Mexico although it’s “not because of politics”.

This article from December explains that this isn’t the only major golf tournament to dump Trump. The Turnberry in Scotland which Trump bought because he wanted the prestige of hosting the British Open won’t be hosting the British Open because Donald Trump bought it and then opened his mouth:

It would seem that Donald’s hotel business is also hurting with bookings down about 60% (over 70% in New York and Las Vegas) for the first quarter of 2016. Sad!

Quite a few of Donald’s business ventures with other companies have unraveled since his campaign began, big donors have held back and even corporate sponsors of the Republican convention have been less forthcoming than in the past.
But this article from January really hits home.
“A December survey of American consumer opinion, fielded by the BAV Consulting division of advertising and marketing giant Young & Rubicam (and the largest and longest running study of brands in the world), found that since Donald Trump’s run for president, the Trump brand has lost the confidence of the people who can afford to stay at one of his hotels, play at one of his country clubs or purchase a home in one of his developments. It is also rapidly losing its association with the gilded traits Trump has long promoted as the essence of his business.
In categories such as “prestigious,” “upper class” and “glamorous” the Trump name has plummeted among high-income consumers. Within the same group, it is also losing its connection with the terms “leader,” “dynamic” and “innovative”—quite a blow for a man who criticizes others for being “low energy” and considers himself an industry trailblazer. The brand has been a survey subject for BAV Consulting’s regular surveys for over a decade and has never before experienced such a precipitous drop in reputation. It’s the kind of change that usually follows a big corporate scandal, like a product recall or financial misconduct. But in Trump’s case it’s a man’s personality that is in play.”

So, as the Donald has made himself the hero of the uneducated white working class he has, oddly enough, become far less attractive to the rich and wealthy. He has lost his “glamour” with the demographic that has been his bread and butter since his poppa gave him that “small loan”. It makes sense, of course, but hardly anyone seems to think it is newsworthy. I haven’t yet seen anything comprehensive about what this campaign is actually costing the Donald in terms of lost business. If anyone has seen such an analysis, I would love to be pointed to it.
