I mean, a prayer she undoubtedly recited. A prayer she has to have considered.
Ivanka and her husband proudly wear their Jewishness. I assume each year they are present for the multiple recitation of the public prayers of confession during the holidays. These make is at least recite words that make us recall things we have done in the past year. Even the rhythm of the recitation has a certain power. For those unfamiliar, I have drastically abbreviated one confession. After the first few verses I even edited out the “for the sin which we have commited before you”
For the sin which we have committed before You under duress or willingly. And for the sin which we have committed before You by hard-heartedness. For the sin which we have committed before You inadvertently. And for the sin which we have committed before You with an utterance of the lips ….. with immorality… You openly or secretly.....with knowledge and with deceit. ......through speech.....by deceiving a fellowman.....by improper thoughts.....by a gathering of lewdness.....by verbal [insincere] confession.....by disrespect for parents and teachers.....intentionally or unintentionally.....by using coercion. ....by desecrating the Divine Name.....by impurity of speech. ....by foolish talk.....with the evil inclination.....knowingly or unknowingly.....by false denial and lying. ....by a bribe-taking or a bribe-giving hand.....by scoffing.....by evil talk [about another].....in business dealings. ....by eating and drinking. by [taking or giving] interest and by usury. ....by a haughty demeanor. ....by the prattle of our lips. ....by a glance of the eye....with proud looks....with impudence....in passing judgment.....by scheming against a fellowman.....by a begrudging eye. ....by frivolity.....by obduracy.....by running to do evil. ....by tale-bearing...by swearing in vain. ....by causeless hatred.....by embezzlement. ....by a confused heart.
In another confessional, sins are recited in alphabetical order.
I do not see how she could utter this prayer, in this climate, without thinking of her father. It must have been difficult. I feel for her.
