From time to time it is necessary that every President communicate directly with the American people to inform them of the status of major events or situations that should not first be filtered by the media or members of the opposition.
The President is the president of all the people, not just the members and supporters of his own party. And all the people have the right to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth.
Lately, there have been numerous actions that have cause great detriment to the country. The "Just say no" approach promulgated by the Republican party has created major disagreements within American society. Many on the more liberal side of the table are increasing ill at ease with the actions and/or inaction demonstrated by the administration on major policy questions. Some citizens on the more right side of the table have strong beliefs that the country requires other approaches.
I believe the President, as our leader, owes it to the country to explicitly state his position on pending legislation that will have a far reaching effect on the country. To this end I am submitting a draft of a speech that I would hope President Obama will schedule this evening.
