Incidently, I was against the war before I was for the surge.
I was against the war for the same reasons most of us were against the war and if I included a poll the answer would be "all of the above."
I felt it was immoral to murder Iraqi civilians. The question I asked then was "How many civilians have to die before Bush is a war criminal."
I also felt that the consequences were more likely to be bad than good, given the sectarian problems.
I felt as though Sadaam had been contained by the UN, tended to believe that UN guy, and thought Sadaam could be contained and watched for a number of years into the future.
Thought that Israel was the more likely target than the U.S.; that Sadaam was probably not that interested in attackung the U.S.; and attacking either the U.S. or Israel would be suicidal - which he should recognize.
That a pre-emptive war is immoral and is contingent upon predicting a future which no one can know.
