I'm feeling that people are consistently bamboozled by the way we discuss solar power. When speaking of power there is the cost of generation, and the cost of construction of the plant (and wires and...)
Let me say clearly:
Solar Power (solar cell) Cost of Generation is $0.00 / Kwh
Coal Power Cost of Generation is $0.02 / Kwh
Nuclear Power Cost of Generation is about $0.25 / Kwh
I'm not even factoring in cost of pollution, transmission costs, staffing, profit and other elements (which will be zero for my home). Purely fuel, and capital equipment costs.
Solar construction cost is already a better deal than Nuclear power, and in terms of sheer $$'s out the door, on par with or coal with back of the envelope calculations, on either the cost of a plant, or cost of fuel.
By comparing the cost of construction of solar to the cost of generation of coal, you are misled.
