The falling, the destruction of the twin towers of the "World Trade Center" confused my appreciation of heroism greatly. I have struggled for years to understand the differences presented in my liberal mind, what with all the fist-pumping, the cries of "USA! USA!..." and the erosion of American Civil Liberties we all hold dear for the sake of "Homeland Security..."
But that's not what i'm here to say today...
I want to mourn the loss of our heroes today, in a quiet, appreciative way - I realize that it may seem out of character for Keithwolftv, but what I have learned to appreciate as heroism on September 11, ten years ago today, were the countless sacrifices and selfless acts of the hundreds of uniformed first responders who ran FULL-TILT BOOGIE towards (now we know) the almost-certain death of their entire contingent.
BUT THEY DID - THEY RAN IN, EVERY ONE OF THEM, GOD BLESS THEM, as is their sworn duty, to rescue all of us Citizens left in the smoldering wreckages... and the Citizens, unseen, unsung, nay... but UNDOCUMENTED in their last heroic acts, helping one another, Americans together until the end...the people who turned around on the stairwells and went back for ONE MORE VOICE in the darkness and insanity that must have been ubiquitous... And they gave their lives, too, as did hundreds of "regular Citizens" on that horrific day, everyday Americans, working to care for their families like you and I are lucky to continue to do today...
From September 11th, 2001, those are the heroes I shall remember, and mourn our loss with that of every Citizen, and family, and friends, and other loved ones left behind...
Like Pearl Harbor... Like the murders of the Kennedys and Dr. King... Like Viet Nam...
We Will Always Remember...
Peace - Keith Wolf out.
