While in my opinion, George Lopez is a great addition to the long list of endorsements, I find it encouraging that Mexican American leaders throughout our country are standing up and endorsing Barack Obama.
As a Mexican American myself, I find it offensive that it has ever been insinuated that their is a rift or some type of animosity between African Americans and Mexican Americans. To categorize it as a "historical fact" is not only a matter of opinion, which I find even more amusing when it comes from someone not of either ethnicity, it is a insult to those of every culture in our country who go about their lives refusing to accept that statement as fact.
I appreciate the fact that Senator Obama has never positioned himself as and African American candidate, pandering to that constituency in the process. Rather he has positioned himself as a candidate for President of The United States, who happens to be African America, instead pandering to the idealistic values that is at the core of every American.
This endorsement is a clear indicator of our defiance to the process of identity politics, and should serve notice to those that attempt to marginalize or categorize anyone on the basis of their heritage, race or social status.
