A majority of Americas support gay marriage. 53-44 %
A slim majority of Americans now support gay marriage, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
The days when "traditional marriage" is defined as between a man and a woman are coming to an end. None too quickly in my opinion.
The days when the LGBT community pays more in taxes and has fewer rights will hopefully end soon, but until then I'll continue to pay my extra $6,000 in federal taxes just because I am one of "teh gay".
Until we achieve equality, the hate, bigotry, and lies will continue to be carried out by our republican Representatives and Senators.
They will continue to lie and tell their constituents that the majority of Americans don't support same-sex marriage equality.
They will decry President Obama's decision to stop the defense of DOMA, yet fail to remember that Bush 43 claimed authority to bypass more than 750 statutes through his signing statements.
In an article published on April 30, 2006, the Globe wrote that “President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office.” In a clarification issued May 4, 2006, the Globe note that Bush had not really challenged 750 bills (which would have implied 750 signing statements), but “has claimed the authority to bypass more than 750 statutes, which were provisions contained in about 125 bills.”
They will conveniently not remember they did nothing to admonish President Bush, yet condemn President Obama.
They will protest the insertion of "personal ideology" into the discussion, yet as Americans move toward acceptance, their personal ideology will be their only reason to try to stop our march toward equality. It is their personal ideology that will make them stand on the floor blustering about tradition and family values.
They will decry "activist judges" and out-of-touch legislatures for any action they take to move our society to one of inclusion for the LGBT community.
They will also hide behind these lies, blocking any action to legislate the bigotry away... praying that it will remain enshrined in our courts and culture for as long as possible.
They will wrap all of this in patriotism and shout hateful lies if we dare to ask them to support our equality in this society.
Mr. Cornyn is my senator.
Here is his reply to my request to be treated as an equal part of this society.
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you... Hate, Lies, and Bigotry in a single letter.
