He's my friend whom I will refer to as Carl. I'm known at my sports club as the Democrat, the Liberal among the majority Republicans in this area. Carl is one of the good guys. In a conversation when I identified him as a supporter of Bush, his response was "I used to be, but no more....."
This morning he asked me what I felt about the proposed 700 Billion dollar taxpayer purchase of unsaleable paper in the hope to prevent a world wide depression. I refused to answer, launching into a rant of all of those, of both parties, who were responsible in what I described as the climax of the refutation of Reagan's" The Government's not the solution, it's the problem."
Perhaps it was my honesty, my lack of blaming it all on one person or one party, that led to his sharing this true story that explains more clearly than anything how this happened.
