I have a love-hate relationship with my computer. And with my Blackberry, my social media accounts, the internet as a whole and modern connectivity in general. I suppose this is either the perfect place or the worst place to confess that!
It came up for me today, because I did something this afternoon that I haven't done in quite along time: I practiced the piano (plus a bit of organ) for about five hours! (Yes, my arms are tired! ;) ) I usually do my practicing in smaller chunks, but I'm ramping up to get ready for a recital I'm giving next week. I was so dedicated to the task that I didn't take my laptop with me! I sequestered myself in the church where I work (and where a fabulous piano lives), cut off from my customary web lifeline.
It was so refreshing to spend a significant chunk of time really focused on one thing! I was exhausted afterwards, both physically and mentally, but in that good, satisfying kind of way that means you've been productive. I now have to confront the fact that I really don't do that often enough these days, and I need to start scheduling it in on a regular basis.
