The Virginia Senate passed a resolution yesterday which called for an amendment to the Commonwealth's Constitution defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. This is intended to permanently prohibit same-sex unions of any kind.
"America will only be as strong as its families," said Sen. Nick Rerras (R-Norfolk). "We must do all we can to uphold the sanctity and dignity of marriage, which is the foundation of our society, our community and our nation."
Am I mistaken, I thought the foundation of our society, community, and nation revolved around freedom to express religious beliefs, to not be taxed without representation, and to secure the common blessings of liberty...
At what point will people realize that our government has more important things to worry about than the private relationships between two individuals - I mean seriously, aren't social security, a balanced budget, the war in Iraq, economic prosperity, and feeding the hungry significantly more important than how Jane and Jenna or John and Rick live their lives.
