I've had a long-running political e-mail debate with my Dad(R). The election was a trying time, but we muddled through it. I was hoping we could take a break after the election, but no dice. The e-mails have continued... most of them parroting the right-wing talking point of the week.
The debate is usually mostly civil (though passionate)... and it's nearly always initiated by him. The thing that's interesting is that these e-mails go out to our whole immediate family. We're split much like the country - some Republicans some Democrats, and some Independents. I don't really think I'll sway my Dad much, but I think it is important to challenge his views for the benefit of the others on the e-mail. So, I nearly always reply-all.
I've decided to start posting these more often as diaries here. I guess it's a window onto the regular Republican mind. My Dad is mostly a pretty rational guy, he's just so bought-into the Republican philosophy, he can't change at this point. Maybe this will help someone in debates with their family members?
Anyway, our relationship is strong and good, and I still love him. Actually, it's kind of nice to have someone to challenge my views. Talking to the choir isn't very helpful for a thinking person.
So, to today's message...
