There is no denying that Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the current Democratic Party leadership have their hearts in the right place and wish for the right policies.
The problem is they are ingrained with a mealy mouthed style of earnest softness that does not appeal to or motivate the electorate. Sure, they are great at glad handing donors and have raised plenty of funds. Unfortunately, the funds are pissed away on half stepping campaigns that don’t succeed.
The record speaks for itself. Losses at the state level. Lost the House. Lost the Senate. Lost the Executive. Gave away the Judiciary.
There is no sugar coating it.
The Democratic Party policies are favored by a substantial majority of citizens. Citizens want rational gun control. Citizens want affordable, simple health care. Citizens want public schools. Citizens want overdue maintenance and improvements to highways, bridges, etc. Citizens want a clean environment.
What the Democratic Party does not have is strong, charismatic leadership that can speak clearly to the electorate in simple terms that easy to understand. What is lacking is the leader that can build enthusiasm and motivate the electorate — and not just Democrats.
The “Better Deal” is a Quioxtian message, tilting at windmills in the form of focus group subdivision of population. It tries to carve out individual groups “the middle class” and “people of color”. It muddles along trying to appeal to the double haters who went for Drumpf.
What is doesn’t do is make it simple and clear that the Democratic Party is for ALL Americans. That its policies are good for the country and every citizen. It doesn’t have that four word slogan, that emotional power, that WINNING.
Hire Frank Lutz. Promote some younger, more charismatic people to leadership. Save the country, and the world.
Until then, the Democratic Party will remain ineffectual, “calling” for this, “urging” for that, on the sidelines wringing hands and bemoaning their fates.
