George W. Bush

  • 37809 entries

Son of George Herbert Walker Bush; former Governor of Texas; 43rd President of the United States.

Unlike his Texas governorship which was marked by notable bipartisanship, George Bush's presidency easily became the most divisive presidency in recent memory. Bush rolled back environmental protection, ordered censorship of government scientific reports, ran up the largest deficit in US history, larded the Federal Judiciary with social conservatives, approved secret and unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens, lied to take America into an unwinnable war in Iraq, bungled the war in Afghanistan, tried but failed to overthrow a democratically-elected government of Venezuela, and squandered the reputation of the US around the world.
