CNN just played this clip from Bush's UN press conference:
The CIA, uh . . . uh, laid out a, uh, several scenarios. They said life could be lousy, life could be okay, life could be better, and they were just, uh . . . uh, guessing at to what the conditions might be like.
For those of you without the latest Dubya decoder ring, here's the English translation:
Better: A tenuous stability.
Okay: Increased extremism and fragmentation in Iraqi society impede efforts to build a central government and adversely affect efforts to democratize the country.
Lousy: Trend lines that would point to a civil war.
Guessing: The first formal assessment of Iraq since the October 2002, written by a group of senior intelligence officials that provides long-term strategic thinking for the entire U.S. intelligence community.
Isn't it amazing how his confidence vanishes when you take him out of his coddled world of campaign stops and put him in a room with reporters?
