Tonight, I'll be on NBC Nighly News after the Vice-Presidential debate, along with a number of other pundits, commenting on the event. Do you suppose Tom Brokaw will call me a "jihadist"? My opposite number as a Democratic blogger will be Ana Marie Cox, the Wonkette.

I actually like Wonkette. I think she's entertaining, and I enjoy reading her gossip page roundups and reader sightings. But to classify her as a "Democratic blogger" is ridiculous, and even right-winger Jim Geraghty, who writes National Review Online's Kerry-bashing column, agrees:
I am pretty horrified at NBC's choice. But I suddenly felt something much worse. How outraged would I be if I were a smart lefty blogger? Mickey Kaus, Josh Marshall, Matthew Yglesias, Kevin Drum, and any one of dozens of left-of-center writers are out there and actually think up new stuff each day beyond bedroom and bathroom humor.
I'm not opposed to bedroom or bathroom humor, mind you - but there's a time and a place for that. And I just don't understand why everyone from the New York Times Magazine to NBC to the WashingtonPost.com poll lumps her in with the regular political blogs.

I don't understand why they confuse "libertine" with "liberal." Does anyone here not know precisely how this will go, regardless of the debate? Hindrocket will say it's a clear Cheney win or (if it's a clear Edwards win) call it a draw, explaining why Cheney's ideas are superior. Wonkette will giggle about how well-endowed the candidates are and make jokes about cheating, orange tans, and the "special" Edwards-Kerry relationship. NO ONE will represent the left-of-center POV.
