Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, president of The Interfaith Alliance, slammed Limbaugh for what he said about the "Religious Left".
LIMBAUGH: "I would submit to you that people on the left are religious, too. Their God is just different. The left has a different God. There's a religious left in this country.
"And, the religious left in this country hates and despises the God of Christianity and Catholicism and whatever else. They despise it because they fear it, because it's a threat, because that God has moral absolutes. That God has right and wrong, that God doesn't deal in nuance, that God doesn't deal in gray area, that God says, 'This is right and that is wrong.'"
(the comments below are mine, not Dr. Gaddy's)
Note that Limbaugh appears to think that Catholics aren't Christians. But that's a
comparitively small issue.
Progressive Christians are finally beginning to get their own voice, and the right is SCARED. Rush can rave all he wants, it's not going to make progressives - Christian, non-Christian and non-believers - go away. In fact it's only going to make the "religious left" stronger. Tom DeLay gets called a "man of faith"... Do men of faith fight against extending US labor laws to Saipan, where 14 year old girls dance naked for tourists?
I'd say that the gloves are off, but the right never really had the gloves on in the first place, did they? Limbaugh is becaring a "crusade" against Christian progressives. This is low even for Limbaugh (and that says a lot!)
Just what Christian credentials does Rush Limbaugh have anyway? To the Religious Right, it seems all you need to be praised as a quasi-saint is to have right-wing politics. It's no different than selling indulgences.
Perhaps it is true that Limbaugh worships a different God than do religious progressives. If so, Limbaugh's God may well have horns and a pitchfork.
