As reported in New Scientist, Mon 26 Sep sees the start of a potentially crucial trial. Eleven parents, supported by the ACLU, will sue the Dover Area School District in Harrisburg, PA for voting in new rules that will encourage children to consider alternatives to evolution (such as "Intelligent Design")

This is a crucial case; if the ACLU loses, school districts across the nation will get a green light to teach voodoo science. Last year, my son reported that fellow students in his Bilogy Hons class voted to cover "Intelligent Design". The same students then disrupted the class when evolution's turn came. I had to teach him evolution, because his teacher couldn't/wouldn't.
I'm being polite when I say that words fail me. I fail to understand people who are happy to use the benefits of the scientific method (such as TV broadcasts of bible thumping from the pulpit) but then treat with utter contempt the science behind evolution. By "fail to undertand" I guess I mean "despise" when they try to shove their anti-intellectualism down my throat.
One question - would you rather be treated by a doctor who's medical training, technology and treatments exploit the theory of evolution or a doctor well-versed in "Intelligent Design"?
