I've pretty much had it with the Democrats. Bush should be challenged on every aspect of this failure of an administration, and I see almost none of it. They are handing us the 2006 elections on a silver platter, and all I see is this opportunity being ignored.
Reid releases a scathing report this weekend on GOP corruption, then immediately apologizes. We have Bush out right lying about his illegal wire tapping. I have yet to hear a Dem call him on it. I have heard nothing from any democrat about the plain violation of the 4th amendment this whole thing is. The war is a failure, I hear a disjointed cacophony of responses about what to do about it. Admittedly I was only half paying attention this weekend while it was on, but on MTP there was a roundtable with Begala, Carville and Matalin. Most of the GOP talking point crap that oozed out of Matalin's mouth went unchallenged by the other two.
Why is it that when Bush mentions his illegal spying we don't hear the Dem leadership, shouting at the top of their lungs: you are violating the 4th amendment? Why is it, when the GOP tries the "they did it too" bullshit in regards to Abramoff, we don't hear the Dems screaming BULLSHIT prove it. Why are we not attacking? Why are we sitting back hoping that the shitstorm will just wipe them out of office? I got news for the national Dems. If we don't take this to the GOP, forcefully and now. We loose. Yeah they may loose a few seats, but they will still be comfortably in charge and nothing will change.
I'm sick of the excuses as well: "The mainstream media is all about the right wing". Bullshit. When we try we grab headlines. Think Reid and rule 21. Think Murtha.
"They don't tell our story!" Bullshit. We don't give the media a story to tell. In the Scalito hearings instead of direct and pointed questions, we gave the media 20 minutes of rambling and pompousness. What was the story of the Scalito hearings? That's right, his wife crying. Could it have been more? Hell yes. The media bit on the "fight" between Kennedy and Specter. Why? Fireworks. Where were the fireworks in the questioning? Nowhere. Why does it seem the Dems still cannot master the sound bite? That's how the media works now. Give them something easy to understand, pointed and provocative. You get airtime. How hard is that.
Unless the dems get their shit together and quick, we're fucked. Simple. We've been handed a golden opportunity, a GOP mired in scandal, violations of the constitution and a restless public, and I see nothing from the Dems except the same of spineless nothing. To quote from today's ABC's The Note:
" Card told the group that they had many challenges and questions to face this week:
1. How long can they brazenly say that it is Democrats who oppose Administration policy on the Patriot Act and domestic spying, when some Republicans oppose them too? ("How long can Democrats and the press be this incompetent?" one relatively new member of the team asked, to which his colleagues responded with swells of laughter and knowing looks.)"
Why aren't we screaming at the top of our lungs about this with the libertarian GOP at our side? Why isn't this on page 1 of the NY times or WaPo?
Because the Dems by and large are spineless and unwilling to take a risk. Or take the fight to the GOP. That depresses me more than the thought of Bush being in office for three more years.
