It appears that two of the leaders of GenDean have turned over their email list to the Edwards campaign. As a recent Edwards supporter and former Dean supporter, I'm all for this. However, I'm wondering if such an action required the blessing of the Governor or someone in Burlington or whether the GenDean leaders could do so on their own.
The email is reproduced below:
Dear
____,
The upcoming Presidential campaign is about bringing desperately needed change to our country by offering Americans a positive, optimistic vision for the future. But as Governor Dean and I know all too well, we will never change anything in America until we take the power out of the hands of the insiders and special interests that are pulling the strings in Washington and return it to the people. That is why I am writing to you today.
You fought hard with Governor Dean to take back our country from a president who has no idea what it means to be unemployed, unable to make tuition payments or unable to pay the bills. Now I am asking you to resume that fight with me to create an America that works for all of us again.
I have never accepted a dime from Washington lobbyists or Political Action Committees and I never will. Their voices will NOT be heard in an Edwards White House so that yours will.
You can trust that I will work to make college affordable for everyone because as the first person in my family to go to college, I know the value of a good education. And you can trust that I will create and keep jobs in America because as the son of a mill worker, I understand that having a job is about more than just a paycheck; it's about respect and dignity.
Governor Dean brought so much to this race - not just his ideas and passion for change, but hundreds of thousands of Americans who have never participated in a campaign before. They have been a powerful voice for change, and Democratic Party has heard them loud and clear.
I am honored to have the support of two GenDean co-founders Michael Whitney and Ryan Beam, and now I am asking you to please consider joining my campaign as well. Together we can make a difference and win back the White House and our country.
Sincerely,
John Edwards
