I'm going to try to keep this short.
We're going to get knocked on our asses today. We're going to get hit hard with disappointment by the Democrats in Congress.
Kagro X has already written his thoughts.
Here are mine.

On Sept. 27, 2006, I wrote The Democratic Party is close to losing me. The issue was the torture vote:
Even if opposing this bill is a losing political fight, it is an issue where Democrats should plant their banner and say, "This is where we make our stand. Today we fight for America." Because that is what is at stake. The United States of America.
I was disappointed with the vote and the reaction of many to it.
But I had a choice to make. I could either give up on the political process or I could harden myself to do even more.
I've told this story before so for those who have heard it I beg forgiveness. I was small for my age when I played football in Ohio so I took a lot of hard hits. I made it a point of the harder I was hit, the faster I would jump back up. To this day, I cannot watch the movie Rudy because it brings back too many painful memories. My senior year, I averaged 4.0 yards per carry and was known by the coaches as one of the hardest hitting defensive backs on the league championship team.
I will stick with the Democratic Party though they are mostly likely to disappoint me today. I'll work even harder because of it. Not because I support what the Democrats in power now are doing today, but because I'm looking ahead to the Democrats of tomorrow. I will put fear in our Congressional leaders that they can and will be replaced by people like me for not doing what is right today.
Threats of leaving the party are understandable. I've been there myself in my disappointment.
But we can really put fear in them by jumping back up and hitting them harder the next time - by either putting up people to run against them in primaries or by winning races for Democrats who'll stand up to them in districts currently held by Republicans.
I've become more hardened of late and some might say even obsessed with doing that in WV-02 (even calling a Republican Congresswoman a "war whore with bloody hands" on Mother's Day). I constantly remind Senator Rockefeller of his torture vote and call for him to investigate torture as chair of Senate Intelligence to atone for his vote and to do what is right for the country and humanity.
But I won't stop driving to either change the minds of the Democrats in Congress so that they are more to my liking or changing the Democrats when I can't do that.
I can't hit them from the stands. I can only hit them back by staying on the field.
