how about Rehnquist and O'Connor, with O'Connor out of there this summer
before Rehnquist?
Just ran across this http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/758akmdq.asp
(sorry, I still don't know how to do a thingy-hyperlink?) and now I'm a little more worried. Yes, I know the publication is rightwing Gopoganda, but Kristol does have very good sources in the nooks and crevices of this administration. If he's on to something we need to prepare.
I've been thinking that if Rehnquist were going to step down that he would have gone already, what with the serious nature of the cancer he's got. I optimistically thought he felt remorse at his shameful role in the ascension of this president and the resulting clusterfuck he's brought upon us and therefore felt it necessary to stay on as long as he could to make amends to the American public. Perhaps long enough for a different president and his/her more moderate appointments? Hey, I can be wishful once in a while!
But if this is just to let O'Connor blindside us with her leaving first and making way for another way-right justice to be appointed (Kristol speculates Gonzales), then we'll be doubly screwed when Rehnnie leaves shortly afterward. She's at least a critical swing vote in our favor once in a while.
Oh, my head! Anyone out there with another perspective on this?
