I realize you may not like this defense (the 3 people who hid it certainly didn't;
I need uprates if it's not too late),
but what I said OBVIOUSLY could not be hidden in accordance with any guidelines.
The attacker said:
I didn't expect anything different from him, since I've known he was a politician and not a savior all along. But neither would I say Obama is what I'd consider the best presidential candidate we could get or are ever likely to get. And if he keeps this shit up, I hope somebody better primaries him next time around.
My defense was that Carter was very unpopular in 1980, but that even a candidate with the gravitas and history of Ted Kennedy got absolutely nowhere vs. him in a primary. My point was that you simply can't primary an incumbent president around anything that's happening NOW -- this ISN'T 1968.
Since you probably couldn't see the comment at the link above the fold, SINCE IT'S HIDDEN(unless somebody was able to uprate it before time ran out), I said:
If he is an incumbent, then no primary can...
...be relevant. Please see 1980, when Ted Kennedy thought he was somebody, just because his brothers were, and thought that anybody fool enough to say "malaise" with that accent, and get our hostages captured by Iran, couldn't stand a chance.
Besides, in case you hadn't heard, Barack Obama is black. If even a candidate with as strong a history of co-operation with black people as Hillary Clinton had couldn't overcome that, what makes you think anybody else can?
"You can't nice these people to death."-- John Edwards
I also got pooties about the incurability of my stupidity, but that was just ridiculous --
it is the people who think you can primary an incumbent President who need curing.
The thing that galls me the most about all of this is that I am in conflict, in the HR war, with people WHO AGREE with me about the fact that the campaign's move to the center is not only tragic and unprincipled but also tactically unsound (since the core of the campaign's appeal is that Obama is supposed to be something new and different, and the calculated centrism is very much politics as usual).
I am defending the campaign from charges that it's so bad that it needs to be primaried again, but I am NOT defending the claim that since he was always a moderate, it was OK for him to cave on FISA.
