This diary is actually an offer of money. You get $50 if you convince me you need it most. I am in charge far as that $50 goes. That's my stake I'm putting up here, to get this started. I'll mail it to the person I decide on, in a postal money order, cashable at your local post office with an ID.
However, I have also been in touch with people who are interested in helping out people in this community who are having hard times, and they will see what comes up here too. This is a test, and entirely my puppy and responsibility, but I thought it would be good to float something out here and see what people had to say about it, and see maybe if we could work on making it bigger.
More after the break.
People on Daily Kos at times write diaries about how they are getting thrown out of their houses or are getting their ISP's cut off, or how they are utterly depressed and can't sleep; they are supporting their mad family members, their mad selves.
It's hard. Now we are getting into harder times, as the winter descends upon us. Happy holidays, everyone!
We all hope Obama will fix things, but he's not in charge yet. So, how many miserable people are out there? Would you like to talk about it?
What can we do for you? What do you need?
I want to hear from people who are really freaked out. I want to hear from people whose phones are about to be cut off. Who are about to be thrown out on the street. Who are contemplating suicide (and, hey; don't we all from time to time?)
Time to talk, people. I'm here.
$50 for somebody, and we'll work on it after that, I hope at least. That's what I'm looking at, anyway. Also, talking, writing, talking. I want people to write at this diary here and tell me how hard it is. I don't usually encourage that from people, but in this case, I'd like to see it go in directions that help fix the problems, including people jumping in here to offer help as well. One thing that has been brought up is seats at the Thanksgiving dinner table where you are, so if you are up for offering such to friends you don't know yet, you could do that here too.
But there's no reason to limit anything. This diary is just what I called it; a "tell me what you need" diary. Tell me. I promise I'll listen and read and get back to anyone who writes, and hopefully more people will too.
Best,
Miep Rowan O'Brien
