Mr. St. Louis Woman and I just finished watching 60 Minutes. They devoted 3/4 of the show to an interview with our new President. Michelle Obama joined for the last 15 minutes. When 60 Minutes went to their last break my husband (who treats spoken words as though they cost money) blurted 'My God he is going to do great.'
We began to talk about what an Obama White House was going to look at. It turns out that, among other things, we are relieved that this man and his family are going to live in the White House. They are normal. They are fun. They are nerdy not narcissistic. They have a lot of Chicago in them--by that I mean midwestern sensibilities with some urban chic.
After years and years of being embarrassed by our President, I think Americans are going to enjoy leadership that they can be proud of. If I'm being completely honest I have to admit that while I adored President Clinton, I was very embarrassed by some of the excesses and personal failures of his White House. While Obama may ultimately let me down, I won't be surprised if he doesn't.
Does this belong more in Open Thread than in a diary? Probably. But there isn't one right now and I want to talk to some Obama supporters who watched 60 Minutes to see what they thought.
He didn't break any news tonight but I am more convinced than ever that he is welcome in my living room whenever he wants to come.
What did you think?
(I'll post video when I find it).
