I just read a column by Rich Lowry crowing that the "Bushies were cleared on intel fumbles". He smugly points to page 50 of the report: "The Commission found no evidence of political pressure to influence the Intelligence Community's prewar assessments of Iraq's weapons programs".
As I understand it, the report sidestepped the entire question of how the intelligence was handled/manipulated by the administration, because that was not in its mandate. So, how can they come to the above conclusion? I know, I know, they asked all the spooks if anyone pressured them and they all said "no". But seriously, how can they provide the statement on page 50, and then duck the question of administration involvement in the flawed intelligence?
