I’m not much of a writer, but this issue deserves attn. Today, Dr Tiller’s clinic closed in Kansas as reported here. I’m beyond furious. Besides donating to Planned Parenthood and signing a petition it seems as if there’s nothing else to do to help. But, aren’t we the army who propelled Obama to the White House? There has to be something more we can do
More below the fold...
The following is an im exchange between me and a friend (only edited for names).
friend: how are you? how are the boys?
me: oldest has a fever, i have a headache and lil one has to deal with both of us...lol
friend: awe i am sorry. i am sending you my healing spirit
me: thank you. we'll be okay. just a nuisance but there’s something u can do
me: need you and yours to think about something critical and act if it's in your heart
me: Dr George Tiller was murdered by an anti-choice terrorist on May 31
me: Dr T was a woman's health provider who also performed abortions in the late months. Most of the feti were non-viable. Genetic issues where the potential child wouldn't have taken a first breath
friend: i remember sad :(
me: Dr Tiller's clinic closed its doors permanently today.
me: A serious loss for women’s rights
me: Today, I called a clinic in my area to volunteer my time if needed. I've also donated to planned parenthood
me: Please do what you can. There will be no need for legislative restrictions if no one is around to help women when needed
friend: true...
friend: i will speak with Ms. Friend (his fiancée) to see how we can schedule some time to help
me: 1(or more) of 4 women have used services such as these at some point. until sex education is mandatory and birth control covered by insurance, genetic issues resolved by stem cell research etc...abortion will cont to fill a need whether we like it or not
me: and i just hate religious monsters to tell me what i can and cannot do with my body even if i can't have kids anymore...lol
friend: i agree... my grand daddy told me that when the nut is in me, it is mine...once it is in the woman, it is hers
me: lol like the thought process. ur grandfather was a wise man. More men, especially religious fanatics need grandfathers like urs
me: :)
friend: :)
me: anyway, the plea is because there are alot of ppl who believe in women's rights who think the fundies are nuts, but those nuts are so vocal and violent, they are succeeding
friend: true..they are sick bastards..
friend: it is shame that we are still live in a world where people still try to control others
me: they will continue to try until we eventually shut em down, but that will take pushback by us all incl those who wouldn't use the services but can sympathize
me: so u have the psa. do with it what u will.
friend: u know anything for u.
me: thanks. it’s actually for us all. i’ll call tomorrow when i have more information.
Although I knew my friend helped for a few hours on the campaign, I didn’t know how he’d respond to such a hot button issue. I learned there are more people on our side. We just have to engage them. It is a start.
Action: Please use your contacts to do the same.
As for those of us who have the need to expend kinetic energy, besides kicking ass, contact a local clinic to see what's needed in your area. I’m waiting for word back from mine tomorrow. However, be sensitive to any guarded response you may receive. These healthcare providers have a valid reason to be on alert.
(my first diary so please go easy on me)
Update: Seneca Doane has more to do
