It certainly took him long enough! But it was well worth the wait:
For those who can't view the video. Jon Stewart goes over what we know about the "war" that it was started by Anita Dunn. This was followed by him also taking on on Cal Thomas for accusing Pres. Obama of "government intimidation" but not pointing out when the Bush administration was doing the same thing. Stating "Obama is Stalin, but Bush was stalling" when it came to "calling out the media."
and then response from FAUX:
Fox News Senior Vice President Michael Clemente struck back at the White House after Dunn's remark saying, "It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming. It seems self-serving on their part." (Full disclosure I worked for Clemente at ABC News.) Fox went on to define their news hours as 9a-4p & 6-8p, parameters which exclude Cavuto, O'Reilly, Fox & Friends crew, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Susteren, and Sean Hannity from the news category and leave a bunch of people you've never heard of.
Jon then goes on to show how all of the "not-news people" are actually the ones controlling the narrative on FAUX. (You know, the ones that aren't on in the hours that FAUX claims are the "straight news" hours, yet whenever you think "FOX News" those are the first people to come to mind-- O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity, Van Susterin, the morning crew, etc.) Even showing us how a video from some elementary school students singing a song that was fully approved by the parents and wasn't a big deal at all, suddenly became "indoctrination" when FAUX got to it.
I really hope you all get to see it because my description doesn't do it justice, but it was definitely another epic smackdown from Jon Stewart.
He also pointed out Valarie Jarrett's response to Campbell Brown asking if MSNBC is the equivalent of FAUX. I will admit, she messed that question up, badly. Jon ended by saying "It's your job to f*ck up power, it's Fox's job to f*ck up truth." in response to Valarie Jarrett's defense of the WH "attack" on FAUX as "speaking truth to power"
Update [2009-10-30 14:22:47 by Muzikal203]: From the comments:
The night before this Fox piece, Jon had the presence of mind to have 2 guests over who favor (get this) a peaceful, non-violent, diplomatic approach to the middle east problem.
The guests were Anna Baltzer, a Jewish-American author, and Dr. Mustafa Barghouti a former candidate for the presidency of the Palestinian National Authority.
Jon actually had a heckler two nights ago; a Joe Wilson style Neocon who yelled "liar" when it was suggested by Dr. Barghouti that Palestinians were under a "longtime occupation".
According to Anna Baltzer:
The show was overwhelmed with angry emails and phone calls prior to the appearance, and up until the last minute it seemed like they might cancel. During the taping, the show had it's only heckler in 11 years. The entire staff were very nervous and may come to regret the monumental decision (and not make it again) as they will surely be inundated now that the show has aired.
Anna suggests calling and/or emailing the show so the production staff is not intimidated by rabid Neocons into not bringing anyone with a "pro Palestinians point of view" on their show (meaning: people who see Palestinians as human beings deserving of food, water and peace).
Here's the link for sending feedback to the show. Please choose The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as your topic, and put a positive word or two in the subject line!
