In this diary from earlier in the week I detailed how Whirlpool is a profitable company that has taken millions of dollars in federal money, but yet has still decided that American workers are too fat and sassy to enjoy those profits with. Hence, they are closing their plant just over the river from my state of Kentucky in Evansville, Indiana putting 1100 middle-class, hardworking Americans on the unemployment line. Now, Central Indiana Jobs with Justice needs our help.
They are organizing a "Carpool to Whirlpool" to rally to let Whirlpool know that we do not appreciate their greed, and the fact that with the economy so bad for so many they are putting 1100 loyal American workers out in the cold.
From an email from Central Indiana Jobs with Justice:
The Whirlpool Corp. plans to start closing its refrigeration plant in Evansville, Indiana on March 26. The refrigerators now manufactured at this plant will be produced in Mexico, eliminating 1,100 local jobs. Meanwhile, Whirlpool?the world?s largest home appliance maker?enjoys healthy profits and has received a $19 million economic recovery matching grant that should be creating jobs here in America.
The Indiana State AFL-CIO and Central Indiana Labor Council have chartered two (2) buses to drive Union Members and Activists to participate in the Whirlpool rally this Friday. Seating will be limited and if you wish to reserve a seat(s), please contact Darlene ASAP with your headcount by calling:

It is outrageous for Whirlpool to be closing this plant in a profitable time after taking our tax dollars. Lets organize as many folks as we can to rally and let them know we do not appreciate their greed, and willingness to put so many hardworking middle-class Americans out of work. Also, we need to let them know if they do move these jobs to Mexico, never again will we buy their products, or products from their sister companies that are produced outside of America.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!
