Well one thing I'll say...Republicans certainly aren't used to getting walloped with ads like this:
Politico has more:
Louisiana Rep. Charlie Melancon, running short on time to overcome Republican Sen. David Vitter’s lead in the polls, is airing an unusual two-minute TV spot that attacks Vitter’s prostitution scandal in lurid detail.
The ad, an abridged version of a longer Melancon campaign film titled “Forgotten Crimes,” features the recorded account of a “former French Quarter prostitute,” who recalls an encounter with Vitter: “He went in, took a shower, spoke very little to me at first. He did his thing. He wasn’t there 15, 20 minutes at that.”
...A source familiar with the buy said the commercial will initially run largely on cable — possibly during the New Orleans Saints or LSU games this weekend. It is expected to reach every market in Louisiana.
Louisiana Democrats have consistently hammered Vitter on the issue of character, highlighting the fact that telephone records had linked him to the so-called D.C. Madam, the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey. In 2007, Vitter admitted that he had committed a “very serious sin” and said that he’d “asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife.”
The ad doesn't focus on the sexual aspect of Vitter's relationship with the prostitute but rather the criminal angle, arguing that just because he is a powerful U.S. Senator, Vitter shouldn't be allowed to escape legal accountability for breaking the law.
