This will be a short diary with one central question. What are your general assembly groups adopting?
I spent a lot of time last night reading OWS diaries and woke up this morning with the realization that there were "I was there" and "OWS should" diaries. What I didn't see was what are are individual occupation groups are discussing and adopting which is where the movement is at the moment. This is an E pluribus unum (Out of many, one; which is en-scripted on the great seal of the United States.) movement. At it's heart Occupy is the very heart of democracy and at the heart the heart is dialogue. What are we saying? What do we want? How are we going to get there. And our diverse groups should be sharing their ideas, their plans.
Could we have more dialogue sharing diaries or a possibly a mother ship diary. If the goal is consensus and I think it is, it can't be a NY consensus or a DC consensus. Now it appears that we are approaching the concept of a world wide movement and consensus. Even in our local assembly what I generally hear is a lot of parroting of talking points. What I want to know is what people really think and out of that we can come to points of general agreement.
In Olympia yesterday we spent two hours deciding whether to move 3 blocks or not and occupy a different park, so be it. Everyone had their say. Democracy is often a messy process. We gained an arguably better location (or it wouldn't have taken so long) and an agreement with the state which takes away the pressure of eviction and arrest. Now it's time to get down to the real reason we are occupying the state capitol.
We can squat on public land and shake our fist at the unfairness of life till hell freezes over but that isn't the point. Lets create a central place to compare notes which is exactly what DKos is good for. If there is another blog location or locations that are already doing it then please share that with me and others.
Occupy Olympia has moved from Sylvester Park to Heritage Park by the public restrooms on Water Street. When you drive by Sylvester Park and don't see us there don't dispare. We didn't go away. We just moved. The sun is shining. It's a great day to have a protest. Come on down.
Can't stay and support this. I'm on my way to the park to see what's happening.
Thanks and have a nice occupation.
