Here's the choice: Allen West opposes the Democrats plan to extend the payroll tax cut and will only support a tax cut extension bill that would have a devastating effect on the environment.
For me, it's about common sense - extending it means more money in the pockets of hard-working families just when they need it the most. That's the right thing to do for the right reason.
This isn't the first time I've done the right thing for the right reason. In 2003, the city of West Palm Beach was threatened by failing businesses, crime, and unending road construction. As Mayor, I worked tirelessly to revitalize the local economy - redoubling efforts to support small businesses at the forefront of job creation. I fought hard to initiate a renewal of the city’s downtown area, starting with the relocation of City Hall and the public library. I also worked to create an internationally-acclaimed photographic center and transform West Palm Beach’s waterfront into an award-winning public space.
The results are clear. West Palm Beach is safer, more livable, and there is a renewed sense of pride in every neighborhood. These smart initiatives have attracted millions of dollars of private investment, new residents to the area, and new businesses into the city.
Here's one thing I didn't do - play political games. The small business owners and hard-working families simply didn't have time for that.
Allen West signed a oath to a lobbyist to not raise taxes under any circumstances – although he seems to get an exception from lobbyist Grover Norquist when it comes to raising taxes on the middle class.
Allen West has gone Washington. His strange, unprincipled approach would raise taxes on middle-class workers by an estimated $1,000 - and kill jobs in the process.
Sadly, it is all to protect more taxpayer giveaways to the wealthiest. That's right, West's strange agenda would eliminate good-paying jobs across the country - and just as we are turning the economy around. It is simply unprincipled.
I hope you'll join my campaign - and do the right thing for the right reason. Let's stand with hard-working, middle class families and extend the payroll tax cut.
