Annie Kuster was
endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare on Tuesday, the day after she made a point of
celebrating the 47th anniversary of Medicare. Kuster's strong support for Social Security and Medicare are in stark contrast to her opponent, Rep. Charlie Bass, the Republican incumbent in New Hampshire's second district.
Bass is a longtime supporter of George W. Bush-style Social Security privatization, and he voted to end Medicare as we know it through Rep. Paul Ryan's budget plan. In fact, he voted for the 2011 version of the Ryan budget, too. His vote for the extremist Ryan budget is about as clear as it gets: Charlie Bass would turn Medicare into a voucher program, with individual seniors seeing the worth of their benefits decline over time.
On Social Security, Bass has a long record of statements and votes aimed at weakening Social Security by moving funds into private accounts that would put people's retirements at the mercy of Wall Street. No less a right-wing mouthpiece than Politifact acknowledges Bass's record in this regard, though, being Politifact, its conclusion is that you can't say Bass supports privatization because the Bush plan Bass signed on to only proposed privatizing part of Social Security, not all of it.
That's the
defense of Charlie Bass's position on Social Security: "He only wants to privatize some of it."
Voters in NH-02 have a clear choice: end Medicare as we know it and risk Social Security money on the stock market, with Charlie Bass, or defend and strengthen those programs and the security of our seniors with Annie Kuster.
Please give $3 to help Annie Kuster get to Congress, so she can fight to protect Medicare and Social Security.
