President Obama recently said that if he is reelected, Republicans will be more cooperative. At the time I thought he might have heat-stroke and was suffering delusions but then today I see an article on TPM with the title:
Republicans Scoff At White House Theory That Obama Victory Will Break GOP ‘Fever’
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/...
Republicans are jumping all over the President's statement saying that they will be as obstructionist as possible claiming that is a great reason to give them the Presidency, the House and the Senate.
Now, call me crazy, but they have been blaming everything including the drought on President Obama and now, just before the Democratic Convention, the GOP is putting a glaring spotlight on the obstructionism that they have been trying to hide. They are calling attention to the fact that the party trumps the good of the country with them and has done so throughout the recession and recovery.
Given the fact that polls show the majority still blame Bush more than Obama for the economy and that approval for the GOP has been at extreme lows due to their obstructionism, aren't they setting themselves up for a pounding at the convention? One based on FACTS rather than lies? FACTS that have been obscured during 2012 as the GOP has tried to make itself look more reasonable?
Is this a brilliant masterstroke on the part of Obama's team to not only make it quite clear that we aren't doing as well as we could be more because of GOP obstructionism than anything else, but also to boost all democrats running for office and slam every Republican?
Once again, I stand amazed at the way the Obama campaign is running things this year. Focused and controlled, they appear to be a few hundred steps ahead of the Romney campaign and I just can't wait to see what they bring out over the weeks until the election.
3:37 PM PT: Update:
We should find out if this was a deliberate statement with deliberate timing (and I strongly believe it was) if it is used significantly at the convention, not in a capitalize-on-a-gaffe sort of way but as part of the core messaging.
