A $200 match!
I'm stunned. Truly. A wonderfully generous kossack, just let us know that they will do a $200 match! Can you believe it? So please, if you have a spare $3, or $5 or $10 for the Okiciyap Food Pantry and for warm clothes for the kids, please donate. For every dollar you donate it will be matched up to $200. We could raise $400 tonight! How wonderful is that?!
The donation information is at the bottom of the diary in the update. This is so amazing!
The original title of this diary was "Can I bother you for just a moment? You see I'm afraid I may have let some wonderful people down." I'm feeling better now thanks to all of you. Far more importantly, so will the wonderful Okiciyap Volunteers and the people of the Cheyenne River Reservation.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
As many of you know, and for those of you who don't, our wonderful betson08, Aji, nomandates, weck, and others have been helping to make sure kids have warm clothes for the winter and homes that have heat.
Heat in January.
A warm winter jacket so a child can go to school during the cold dark days of winter.
The Okiciyap family has been literally saving lives and making long lasting change happen.
cacamp wrote a wonderful comment in Aji's diary up tonight explaining just what a profound difference this community has made in people's lives. Your caring has kept people from freezing to death and no, that is not hyperbole.
yesterday I picked up two dkos heaters on Rosebud (10+ / 0-)
and I just wanted to say thank you to all you kossacks who are helping this project.
About three + years ago Chief Leonard Crowdogs daughter was badly injured in a car accident and almost died. She has had a long and hard recovery and was confind to a wheel chair. Recently she has been getting out of the chair and walking around and even driving her car. This is something the doctors told her would never happen so of course we're all very happy with her progress. One thing she's had a hard time with is feeding her wood stove during the day when her kids are in school and hubby at work. They do have propane in the kitchen for cooking and Sherry (our contact at St Francis propane) has helped her with propane before. I was up on Rosebud yesterday and stopped by to ask Sherry if she was able to let Burnadette have one of the heaters that have been donated by Kossacks. She said yes so I made arrangements to get one and have it hooked up for Burnadette. I know it'll make a big difference in their home.
Also I was able to get another heater for a young woman who had left an abusive relationship and moved into a house with a propane tank but no stove to hook up to and no way to get one. She and her two kids can now live in a safe place and have heat in her little house where she needs it. Before she was using the kitchen oven to heat the whole house at night.
So yesterday I played Santa Claus on behalf of all you kossacks who have so generously helped in these Native American Netroots projects. btw, neither of the the women involved knew what I was doing since I didn't know if there were any heaters left and I didn't want to get false hopes up. Seeing their happy surprise was a feeling I wish you all could share, it was great. Anyway, it felt good to play Santa and I wanted to share it with all of you too. Wopila-Tanka, thank you all very much.
America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity

That's what all of you have made possible. That's what the
Okiciyap volunteers who have worked their hearts out over the last few years and months have made possible.
And now, we'd like to thank them for their tireless efforts on behalf of so many with a small gift.
I offered to write a diary this week to help with the fundraising for those gifts, but matters at home blew life out of the water. This is not that diary. I'm distracted and worried about my son and fighting off a cold. But I had to so something. I keep thinking of the kids and the cold and not having school books or food or heat and of the volunteers doing so much trying to make sure they do.
Aji has the diary up you really need to read. We're so close to reaching the goal. Just a few dollars left to go.
Would you mind going to Aji's diary and throwing in $5 or so? I'd love for the goal to be met in her diary. She has done so much for so many. It would make her happy. :)

I can't help thinking of how much "thank you" means any time of year, but especially this time of year.
For those who do so much in the face of overwhelming odds, it seems the least we can do.
Thank you, darlins. You, as always, ease my heart.
8:20 PM PT: Update!
Because of you Aji was able to finish off the gift fundraiser for the Okiciyap volunteers!
If you still want to help, food for the Okiciyap Food Pantry on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Isabel, South Dakota and warm clothes are badly needed. Every dollar makes a huge difference.
Thank you so much. As always, your caring and kindness eases the heart. You do much more than you know.
