A little more than four hours ago, Robert Reich posted on Face Book. Now this post starts off as most of his do: a topical summary in language accessible to most 99%ers re: the economic doo doo we are mired in and some common sense ways we could get out of the mess. Usually Reich's ending paragraphs locate the ball in the hands of the very folks least likely to help us out of the hole-our elected officials. He often seems to hold back a cuss word or two as he admits that it will be next to impossible given our money-driven election system to get these very elected officials to well, act right. Today, however, he struck a different tone. Today's ends with a commitment: either a progressive such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Saunders jumps in the race, or he will. Wait, I almost forgot, he also asked if" Hillary Clinton will do it?" I guess "it" being stop welcoming Wall Street as managers of what is we the taxpayers' "Company Store"?
Here's that last paragraph:
"At the very least, with a candidate for president in 2016 who makes this the centerpiece of his or her campaign and turns it into a national movement, which you and tens of millions of others join. I don’t see any prospect on the Republican side. Then will Hillary Clinton do it? If not, Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders? If no one else will do it, I will."
Well, I have not thought about this through my "veteran campaign volunteer lens" however at first blush this could make for an interesting campaign season. I live in Boston, more particularly in a community composed of Roxbury-Dorchester neighborhoods. I remember when Robert Reich ran for governor of Massachusetts and how many Democratic Party activist gave him short shrift because he didn't come up through the ranks of the Massachusetts Democratic Party pressing the flesh at caucuses and what not I suppose.
Unlike Governor Deval Patrick, right? It's all so much material for Jon Stewart sometimes.
