I’m going to write about community tonight, since it was my home when I first came to Daily Kos, and it’s my home now. Carnacki began Top Comments on June 14, 2006. He asked for diarists, I replied, and I posted my first Top Comments diary on June 20, 2006. Of currently active diarists on Daily Kos with Top Comments pedigree, only Laura Clawson posted before me. Her first TC diary was June 19, 2006.
More below, but first, a word from our sponsor ...

Carnacki wrote a fine Top Comments diary in those days that drew attendance from quite a few front pagers. I apparently neglected to put it where I ALWAYS put diaries I plan to refer to again - in my hotlist. So, tonight, when I need it, it’s not there, and I can’t spend the time to find it again. Instead I found another Carnacki diary from that time frame, in which many of the same suspects popped in, but it was not a Top Comments diary. Instead, it was a diary satirically taking the site’s founder to task for choices he made in new front pagers. In those days, it was practically a tradition for Carnacki to mock criticize new front pagers - some considered it almost a rite of passage - and many of those selected (Laura Clawson among them! As that was the occasion of her ascension!) would pop in to share in the community merriment.
I am not going to write commentary about the diary. The diary and the comment threads speak for themselves. But I do hope you will read it. And I hope at least a few of the ‘biggies’ will revisit it, as well, and remember something of the joys of community participation. We miss you. (Not you, MB, since you are always with us. (And THANK YOU for that!)
And, we think perhaps there may be something that you miss, too. (That means you, too, Mr. C.)
Thanks for reading!
On to tonight's comments, formatted by my dear friend and cohort, brillig!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Puddytat:
In last nights Top Comments on the demise of pay phones, Tara TASW asks a pertinent question then lotac chimes in followed by G2geek with the ultimate payoff. Must. Not. Be. Missed.

In the Bill O'Reilly diary by Hunter (who else?) Zwoof informs us of another of BillO's glorious achievements, and xxdr zombiexx adds one more.
