Marco Rubio had already announced his intentions to seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2016 and won't seek re-election to his Senate seat. So, who's the first wingnut out the gate to succeed Rubio?
Pensacola, Fla. (WEAR) - Speaking at a press conference about mold at the Federal Courthouse in Pensacola Tuesday, U.S. Representative Jeff Miller told the media that he's considering a run for Florida's U.S. Senate seat.
Senator Marco Rubio will not seek reelection in 2016, as he's making a push for the republican nomination for president.
Miller said he hasn't made a final decision about his run for senate, but he's seriously considering it. He plans to make an announcement in the next few weeks.
GOP Rep. Jeff Miller (FL-01) is currently the Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs committee. Today's announcement, cloaked in another seagull-style fly by in his home district, largely flew under the radar.
If Miller decides to abandon his safe House seat, the potential for ripple effect is significant, particularly in the purple Floribama district that Miller represents. Joe Scarborough once held the seat that Miller occupies. The Emerald Coast of Florida is becoming more blue by the day.
Ashton Hayward, anyone?
Ashton is kind of like an androgynous politician. Though some sources list him as Republican, he's (in my experience) an energizing progressive who might be the cutting edge of a southern political renascence.
It's all low key at the moment, but potentially big changes are in the wind. This congressional seat would be totally up for grabs if Jeff Miller seeks higher office.
