As Hillary Clinton’s popular vote lead continues to increase it casts a large shadow over the orangey cotton candy president-elect. Right now, Donald Trump has around 46.5 percent of the popular vote, while Hillary Clinton has more than 48 percent. To put that into perspective, only John Quincy Adams has a lower popular vote, with 32.18 percent, losing the popular vote but becoming President. Adams’ low percentage was also during an election when 4 candidates ran to the end.
Rutherford B. Hayes became President after losing the popular vote, but had 47.9 percent of the vote. Benjamin Harrison became President with a losing 47.8 percent of the popular vote. And George W. Bush became President...well, we all remember that fiasco.
As Nate Silver points out.
“Landslide” seems to mean about as much as anything Trump says.
