Warning: Graphic language ahead
Beyoncé has made quite a name for herself recently by revealing, apparently, that she is of African American descent. Her video for her new song “Formation” includes these lyrics:
My daddy Alabama, Momma Louisiana
You mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas bama
I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros
I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils
Earned all this money but they never take the country out me
I got a hot sauce in my bag (swag)
A clear reference to her being black and American and from the south. A lot of the song is about how great she is, as is the thing with many pop songs these days. And then Beyonce drops this bomb!
When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay
When he fuck me good I take his ass to Red Lobster, cause I slay
If he hit it right, I might take him on a flight on my chopper, cause I slay
Drop him off at the mall, let him buy some J's, let him shop up, cause I slay
I might get your song played on the radio station, cause I slay
I might get your song played on the radio station, cause I slay
You just might be a black Bill Gates in the making, cause I slay
I just might be a black Bill Gates in the making
Red Lobster!?!?!
Well, enough is enough. And there are quite a few white people who feel that this song glorifies killing police officers and they heard that somewhere, so it’s time to go to Red Lobster’s Facebook page and boycott!
Red Lobster tried to explain that they do not have involvement with what popular musicians write about.
But, like realizing that John Wayne the person didn’t really die when he played Davy Crockett in The Alamo, some people have a hard time comprehending the separation of fact and fiction.
Kim should probably read the lyrics and watch the video as there isn’t anything in it to suggest violence against law enforcement is good or advisable.
Good point, Mr. Armstrong. By “good point,” I mean not a point but a statement of some kind that makes sense, but is based in a virtual world where you have created a context that does not exist on our shared physical plane.
