Notable Tennessee conservative asshole Rep. Andy Holt is doubling down on a vile promotion to further his campaign. He had planned to give away an AR 15 assault rifle at a campaign event. Instead of backing down under a flood of criticism due to its terrible timing with the deadliest mass shooting to date in the United States, he’s announced he won't be giving one away. He’ll be giving two away:
Holt, R-Dresden, is known for speaking his mind, and the day after the deadliest shooting in American history is no exception.
For an upcoming fundraiser, the West Tennessee lawmaker is planning to give away two AR-15 rifles, the same kind of weapon used in Sunday’s shooting.
“We should not focus on the gun itself,” said Holt in a phone conversation. “We should focus on the depravity of the heart of the person who’s pulling the trigger.”
Rep. Andy Holt previously (local) news when he played tough guy telling the President of the United States to "shove it" when the Commander in Chief made a speech about tightening gun controls in January 2016.
He’s also a classic conservative. He brags about his extreme "pro-life" views (endorsed by Tennessee Right to Life), yet thinks it is A-OK for everyday, unstable maniacs to have unfettered access to weapons of war. But, don’t worry, y’all. He’s not trying to be offensive.
When asked if he thought giving away an assault-style rifle might be offensive, Holt said, “It’s not intended to come across as offensive, it’s intended to help people.”
Those people who used the AR 15 to commit atrocious mass murder? It isn’t the gun’s fault. It’s the media’s fault:
"Why do we see the repeated use of the AR-15? Well because it's interviews like this," Holt told Channel 4. "It's because of the media's absolute infatuation with the AR-15."
Channel 4 initially asked Holt if he planned to still give away the AR-15 in light of the Orlando massacre. The lawmaker said yes, then added he wanted to give away a second AR-15, as well.
Remember when the Republican party claimed to be the party of personal responsibility?
Oh, and this guy is a deacon in his local Baptist church. Because, of course he is. Give away weapons that can cause mass murder? So much for being pro-life. And it sounds exactly like something Jesus would do, right? Right.
Tough guy Andy Holt is reporting that a leftwing gun nut has threatened him and his staff:
“This is the kind of inconsistent behavior we see from the left wing,” said Holt. “Here we are trying to ensure that people have the right to protect themselves, and we’re getting death threats over it? These liberal activists are threatening to bring their guns to the Capitol and harm people… It makes zero sense, but It’s what we have come to expect. I’d sure like to see where Democrat leaders are on condemning this type of behavior from members of their party rather than letting it go unchecked. We’re asking the state troopers to keep an eye out for the safety of those at the capitol.”
Sure, this sounds exactly like something leftwing protesters would do. Mmmhhmm.
By the way, don’t expect too much sympathy for the LGBT victims. Andy’s running making it 2004 again with his tired campaign slogans:
