People in Raleigh, North Carolina were treated to a display of police work as it is supposed to happen. Wake County police responded to reports that 62-year-old William Bruce Ray, possibly under the influence and suspected of declining mental health, was pointing a shotgun at passing cars on a road.
Deputy D.R. Farmer stopped to question Ray in response to reports of a man pointing a shotgun at passing drivers, and Ray became belligerent and pointed the shotgun at Farmer, Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.
"The deputy luckily grabbed the barrel and pushed him back," Harrison said. "The man says, 'I got something for you' and reached in his pocket and came back with a pistol."
As Farmer pushed the .22-caliber handgun aside, the gun went off, the sheriff said.
You compare this to what just happened to Alton Sterling, who was pinned down by two police officers and shot for “possibly” having a gun in his pocket. You compare this to what just happened to Philando Castile, executed in front of a 4-year-old for carrying a legal gun. Clearly some lives matter more than others.
