This is a lovely story. Well, the ending is lovely. Getting there is somewhat heartbreaking.
On Monday, MSNBC shared the disturbing news that 89-year-old Charlie Brotman, who has been the official announcer for the President’s Inaugural Parade for 11 straight presidents (starting with Eisenhower), was “easily” fired by Donald Trump and replaced with a Trump supporter. Mr. Brotman reportedly took the news very hard after receiving a simple email from Trump.
Now for the the good part: On Friday, Rachel Maddow announced that Charlie Brotman has been offered a new gig with NBC. The American people will not only get to hear this gentleman’s voice during the parade, we will get to watch him announce the event on television, as well.
Here is the MSNBC news video:
Thank you, Mr. Brotman for 60 years of relaying what is usually a grand event. If you’re going to switch bosses — this would be the time.
Cheers and congratulations to NBC for wining the honor of having a legend like Charlie Brotman announce from your studios on Inauguration Day.
