Im still not sure I belong here on the liberal side of issues but I know damn well I dont belong in the jack booted fascist camp that calls itself conservative these days. I still remember registering to vote for the first time in 1986. When confronted with the choice of Dem,Repub or Indy affiliation my kneejerk reaction was to lean conservative(God,guns and guts and all that).I wasn't always pleased with the choices offered by "my" party so I tended to vote all over the place, more along the lines of "who do I dislike least".
Somewhere in the mid 90's I lost all faith in politics as a whole and stopped voting altogether-until now. As a Florida resident I was appalled at the behaviour of the Republican party in the 2000 election and distressed that I had failed my civic duty to vote. It drove home the point that even my single vote could be the one that makes a difference.
Even before the true colors of Bushco and todays far right of center Republicans bubbled to the surface I was convinced these were not the people I wanted running my country. This year I have registered as an Indy but for all intents and purposes will(barring a blunt trama head wound) be supporting whatever Dem secures the nomination as part of my personal "Anybody but Bush" campaign.
The Repubs,by moving so far right of center, have brought this upon themselves. In my case they have alienated a moderate to the point of causing me to not only vote for the Dems but to activly oppose them on virtually every issue. IMHO my situation is not unique in that not only have they driven moderates such as myself away but have also inspired those not normally involved in politics to become so...For what its worth..
