As someone looking for House races to donate to suggested, I have put together this chart:
House Race
chart
I list the 68 House races that look at all competitive right now, relying heavily on the Cook Report for guidance as to what is realistic. There are 35 Repub seats, 31 Dem seats, and 2 member vs. member races in Texas. For a majority, we need to win 46 of these (or come up with some upsets out of nowhere). This is because we are currently down 12, and we will definitely lose one more seat in Texas (Jim Turner's).
I have provided the names of the leading candidates (in some cases guesswork) and their final 2003 FEC filings, from www.fec.gov. A n/a means that the candidate did not file in 2003. I also include the vote %s in each district for House in 2002 and for Pres. in 2000. The Texas seats' 2002 totals are meaningless, but the 2000 Pres. vote reflects the new district lines.
Finally, I have included the "outlook", which mainly comes from the Cook Report, which I obtained through nationaljournal.com. I have interposed my own judgment in a couple of places, however. "Tossup" and "Lean" are races that should be competitive and winnable by either side. The "Likely" races are the longshots.
Please give me some feedback. Hopefully, this can in some form become a feature of this site or the House race site. I know I left off some races that others might not (i.e. NH-01 and NC-11) and picked the wrong candidate as the "favorite" in some cases. Those of you with local knowledge, please let me know. That said, enjoy!
