In a recording obtained by The Washington Post, Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (D-Conn.) sings yesterday to supporters in Concord, N.H., about his plans to campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in a place where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain. Oklahoma holds its primary Feb. 3, a week after New Hampshire.
It's really shameful and rediculous... he should have known better than entereing in a totally off key rendition of Oklahoma...
When the Washington Post gave a copy of the recoding to Lieberman spokesman Jano Cabrera all she could say was "Oh God!"
It begins with Lieberman warbling, "Oklahoma! Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I. Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk, Makin' lazy circles in the sky.
"You don't want me to continue, do you?" the candidate asked. The audience did. So Lieberman continued, in dramatic reading style: "We know we belong to the land. And the land we belong to is grand!"
Then, casting caution aside, he resumed the melody with gusto: "So when we say Yeeow! Ayipioeeay! We're only sayin' You're doin' fine, Oklahoma, Oklahoma O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A!" A laughing Lieberman told his audience, "See you in Oklahoma."
