Politically i stand about as far left from center as one can without running the risk of falling into that pit that meets up with the freepers at the bottom. Somehow, despite that or maybe because of it i loved the idea of Dean winning. Not just New Hampshire or Iowa, but also his local thanksgiving football game or a hand of cribbage. It was like the odd couple a fiscally conservative governor with good ratings from the NRA and a flamboyantly liberal soy milk drinker. Why was (dare i say is?) it so easy for us to fall in love with Dean and that oddball wife of his Judy? Why did we want him to sweep up the primaries so much?
My $.02
I think it is because he was and is letting us win along with him. From early on Dean was pigeonholed into being the candidate of angry progressives and he never said "No! these people aren't who i want on my campaign". Then when he was the frontrunner he never abandoned us, he gave us his horrendous fashion sense with those bright orange hats. and afterwards we got the rebel yell. If he wins it would be us telling the rest of America that we had chosen this candidate and by god he was going to beat George W. Bush. Who could ignore us then?
The talking heads would be useless against us, the centrist's would realize that we were right all along, and the republican party would dissolve in the face of a spectacular electoral loss.. Even in the Diebold states.
Alas it looks like we'll never get to see if the more ridiculous parts of our pipe dream come true.
If kerry wins the nomination i will volunteer for him but even if he wins i know i'll only be able to lose.
