Clinton used Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow", Gore used Paul Simon's "Call Me Al", JFK (the original) used "High Hopes" with modified lyrics. Dukakis used that Neil Diamond song about immigrants (and deserved to lose if only for that reason). FDR used "Happy Days are Here Again", which you still hear at the Dem conventions.
Kerry obviously needs a theme song. Tena subbing for Atrios today has been calling Kerry "Big John", which suggests Jimmy Dean's hit of the same name from the 60s (as a singer he makes fine pork sausage). The only other song I can think of is: "Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide / Come on along, or go alone, he's come to take his children home" - yep, "Uncle John's Band" by the Grateful Dead. Hey - it gets us the DeadHead vote.
Those are probably two of the worst possible choices (though still not as bad as Neil Diamond).
I'm looking for suggestions - this campaign needs a soundtrack. They don't have to have the name "John" in them either. What should Kerry's theme song be?
