NewsNight with Aaron Brown, Today: Brown asked guest Jeff Greenfield if it were true, as had been said on his show five times this week, that even if Richard Clarke's recommendations had been followed, there was no way to prevent the 9-11 attacks.
Greenfield said that in going back over the testimony, Clarke had been specifically asked if implementing his recommendations on Afghanistan policy would have prevented the attacks. And it was this question that he answered with a simple and definitive "no." According to Greenfield, Clarke thought that what might have prevented it was 'shaking the tree' in the intelligence community through executive level meetings with the heads of the intelligence agencies.
